Letter Party!!! YAY!!

We have reached the final stretch of Pre-K.
We finished learning all our ABC and Alef Beis Letters. Wahoo!!

Here we are at our party wearing letter crowns we decorated, singing songs, and excitedly looking at our Torah cake we enjoyed. On the cake there are Hebrew letters as well as ABC letters. The Torah was written with Alef Beis letters. How come there are ABC letters on our Torah cake as well? There are people who may not know how to read Hebrew therefore Hashem said a person can read and learn Torah in any language they understand. There are books about the Torah written in other languages including English with ABC letters.
At this event, we also had special activities reviewing our letters. :)

Letter Saf

At last, we arrived at the LAST letter of the Alef Beis. Wow! We did it!! :)
Dylan delivered letter Saf to us. Its form has one big line on top, one big line coming down on the right side, one bg line coming down on the left side, and one little line across on the bottom.
Hint: Letter taf had his tooth grow in when he was a tinok-baby. When he got a little older, his tooth was ready to come out. It began to shake and his tooth fell out. Now, it is letter Saf, since Saf has not dot. :)

Parshas Korach

This weeks Parsha had a heavy story. Why would the Torah mention what Korach and his followers did? The story was written in order for us to learn lessons from it. One lesson that Pre-K learned was being jealous of another person can lead to negative things and cause rifts between people and leave them upset. However, there is a positive side to being jealous of another person. A person who is kind and studies Torah since it can lead us to doing even more good things and becoming an even better person.

Letter Taf

Our dear friend Nicole brought us Letter Taf, the second to last letter of the Alef Beis. Woohhoo!
Taf has one big line across on top, one big line coming down, jump to the other side and make one big line coming down, one little line on left side across on bottom, and one dot.
Hint: Little tinok (baby) Taf went to the doctor because its mouth was hurting. The doctor looked into its mouth and excitedly announced, tinok Taf was having one little tooth grow in. It was teething. Yay!

Dress for Space

Friends discussed what does it take to become an astronaut. Friends said that astronauts exercise and learn about space and planets. They learn about rocket ships as well.

On Thursday, friends decided to go on the trip- SPACE TRIP.
They started day with exercising. Boys did 100 push ups!

Everyone made special self- designed helmets and suits. Friends passed a big test about planets,
answering questions about planets. And then... Pre-K Space ship took off together with the Magic School Bus and flew all through the Solar System. Friends came back home just in time before parents came to pick them up.

Our World- Space

This week, Pre-K friends continue learning about Space. We learned that there is no gravity in space. What is gravity? It is the force that holds and pulls things down. That is why when we jump up we do not start float in the air, but land back on the ground.
Friends review planets and discussed which one they would visit if they would have a chance.

"If I would be an astronaut, I would visit Jupiter because I want to see how cold it is there." ( Gabriel)
"...I would visit Mars because it has the biggest mountains." ( Ethan)
"...I would visit Jupiter because I want to know if it is hot or cold there." (Rochelle)
"...I would visit Earth because there are lots of seas." (Nicole)
"...I would visit orange Venus because it is close to Sun. It is super hot." ( Eli)
"...I would visit Jupiter because I want to feel (touch) it." ( Sam)
"...I would visit Mars because I want to see how big are the biggest mountains." ( Dylan)
"...I would visit Jupiter because I like this planet. It is very big." ( Etelle)
"...I would visit Jupiter because it start with the same letter as my aunt Jenn's name  and Mars because it starts like Michael." ( Leora)
"...I want to visit Neptune because I want to scuba dive there." ( Benny)

Talking about space adventures, friends discussed what would they take with them on the trip.

"If I would go to space, I would take Michael, ema, abba, and all my toys and 2 lollipops. (Leora)
I would take all my toys , my whole family and 101 fruits. (Eli)
I would take with me Aron, Ronya because it is her birthday, Esther, Rena, Gena, Zlata, my mom and dad, Dovid Moshe, my cousin, grandparents. ...and I will take all my toys. ...and I'm taking strawberries. (Etelle)

I would take all my family. (Ariella)
I would take an air tank, underwear suit, helmet, rocket ship, a ladder and apples. (Ethan)

Excitements of the week

This Friday, friends made CHALLAH DOUGH from the scratch.
Flour, yeast, eggs, oil, sugar and salt. Nothing was forgotten.
The most fun part of challah making was kneading.

Notice, how friends mastered challah braiding art! Beautiful!

Pre-K friends were invited to a special party- First Graders Siddur Party! What a celebration!

Pre-K friends are sending their Mazel Tov to Sam's brother- Dov!

Our World- Space

This week, friends started to learn about fourth day of creation- SPACE.
Friends learned that there are 8 planets in the Solar System. Mercury is a ball of iron closest to the Sun, Venus is the same size as Earth, Earth is the place where we all live, Mars is red and rocky, Jupiter and Saturn are gas giants, Uranus and Neptune are icy planets.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZ-qLUIj_A0
Few years ago, there were 9 planets. Pluto was one of them. What have happened to Pluto? asked friends. Why is it no longer considered a planet? Believe it or not, this debate has been going on for a long time. In August of 2006, 424 astronomers finally got together to vote on the definition of "planet." The definition they came up with would no longer consider Pluto as a planet, but rather a dwarf planet. To learn more about Pluto faith, please visit http://www.sciencestoreforthestars.com/science-toys.html

Next week, friends will learn more about planets, space crafts, astronauts, and telescopes.

Juicy Juicy Juice Bar

Thank you to Mazel Parents Association, the Juice Bar was a great event in Pre-K.
Thank you to our moms who came to support friends!
Friends learned that vitamins help to keep our bodies healthy and strong.
What is the best source of vitamins? Fruits and vegetables!

Supporting Pre-K independence in choice making,
moms gave friends a list of offered fruits and vegetables.
Everyone chose to make juice from their favorite ones.

Can you guess what fruits did girls choose?
STRAWBERRIES, mango, apples, beet to add color and carrot.

Excitements of the week

On Monday, Pre-K friends had Bill Wurtzel and his wife Claire as our guests. They create art that nurtures using whatever healthy ingredients are on hand. Bill makes Fun, Healthy, Silly, Creative Breakfasts for his wife, his children and grandchildren.

HUGE Thank you to Eli's mom, Milana, who make perfect pancakes for
Pre-K Funny Food Art Breakfast!!! THANK YOU!

Our thank you goes to Sam's mom, Maya, who came to make
Healthy and very yummy Fruit Salad:)

 Friends loved it!

Our World- Plants

On third day, Hashem created land and plants.
Friends said, that plants are good because they are beautiful,
we can smell them, they give us food.

Friends learn that plants are living things. They need soil for food, water to drink,
sun for light and warmth. Every part of the plant has job to do. Roots keep a plant in the ground and drink water, stem transfer water to leaves and flowers, leaves make food for plant, flowers make seeds for future plants.

What parts of plants do people eat?
Radishes- roots, leek- stems, lettuce- leaves, cauliflower - flowers, sunflower seeds...

Friends visited a local fruit store to buy eatable part of plants.

Thank you to all our Parents for sending in fruits and vegetables to our class.
We learned what are fruits and what are vegetables.
There are two different opinions - scientists and cooks.
Scientists say that everything that develops from flower and have seeds inside is considered to be a fruit. Therefor, tomatoes, cucumbers, pepper, and squash are fruits. Carrot, potatoes, onion are vegetables. Cooks say that everything which is sweet is considered in their kitchen fruit, the ones which are not sweet- vegetables.

Friends drew naturmort - images of fruits.

They do not forget to take care of our little garden.
